QUEEN ELIZABETH OLYMPIC PARK PLAN WINS AT TOP PLANNING AWARDS

QUEEN ELIZABETH OLYMPIC PARK PLAN WINS AT TOP PLANNING AWARDS

Story 12/05/2016

The plan to transform Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has won an award at the United Kingdom and Ireland’s most prestigious planning awards.

London Legacy Development Corporation’s Local Plan 2015-2031 won the Excellence in Plan Making Practice category in the Royal Town Planning Institute’s (RTPI) Awards for Planning Excellence 2016.

The Local Plan sets out the strategy for the future of the 2012 London Olympics site including the policies that will be used to direct development and determine applications for planning permission.

Andrew Dorrian, Chair of RTPI London said:
“It is fantastic that planning in London has received national recognition through winning this Award. Planners across the city are working hard, every day to deliver great places for people to work and live.”

Roisin Willmott, RTPI Awards Advisor said:
“This is an excellent plan and is a role model for regeneration for other development corporations and local planning authorities. The judges were particularly impressed by the way it actively seeks out the views of young people. Delivering this plan, in addition to the infrastructure delivery plan and the Community Infrastructure Levy schedule simultaneously, is impressive. The Plan’s genuine emphasis on sustainable development, particularly energy, sets it apart from the other entries.”

The RTPI Awards for Planning Excellence celebrate the contribution that planners and planning make to society, highlight exceptional examples of planning and inspire others to achieve the same high standards.

The RTPI represents 23,000 planning professionals worldwide and promotes spatial planning, shapes policy and raises professional standards.
