On Saturday 27 July, you can get in touch with the wildlife and nature of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park with an important and fun activity to help gather information about the plants, animals and insects that live on the Park.

There are so many free activities and events happening across the Park such as:
- Bee Walks led by Bumblebee Conservation Trust
- Dragonfly Walks led by the RSPB
- Flower Insect Timed Counts led by Buglife
- Pond dipping led by RSPB
- Camera trapping led by UCL
- Insect painting led by Our Parklife
- Botanical walk led by Idverde

All activities are free but places are limited on some of the walks so it is essential to pre-book!

The activities will be based out of two hubs on the Park:
South Hub: UCL East Community Classroom – Marshgate Building, E20 2AF what three words: ///teams.forms.forest

Accessibility: The Park is designed to be as accessible and inclusive as possible. There is step-free access, hard standing, regular seating and a Park Mobility service – more details here.

North Hub - Free Event Timings
Flower Insect Timed (FIT) Counts - from 10.30am
From 10.30am
These are 10-minute surveys which will occur hourly (the public can also carry out their own on the Park). You will watch a patch of flowers for 10 minutes with an expert and count how many insects visit. It is a very useful tool for individuals, community groups and others to measure change in their local biodiversity.
Arts and Crafts 12-2pm

Join in arts and crafts activities using recycled materials to make your own bug, butterfly, bee or flower!
Based at the mobile garden.
Botanical Horticultural Walk - 11am to noon
11-12 noon
Join Jerome from the landscape maintenance team to understand more about the plants and habitats in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The planting design and the soils play an vital role in supporting nature and the biodiversity. Test your plant knowledge and look at the wildlife that enjoy the amazing horticulture of the Park.
Butterfly Walk
A guided walk searching out the butterflies in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park - we know there are 21 species around - so we want to see how many we can find on the walk and record them as part of the BioBlitz data collection on the day! A knowledgeable volunteer will help you explore the habitat that supports butterflies and allows them to thrive in urban environments.
Bee Walk - 1-1.45pm

Join Bumblebee Conservation Trust on a family-friendly Bumblebee Walk to see different species up close and learn their identifying features. There will be opportunities to safely catch and pot bumblebees to record then release. A rare species, the Brown-banded carder bee, has been recorded on site, come and help us find it!

Dragon Fly Walk - 11.00 -11.45am

The Park Biodiversity Manager will lead a walk around the park to discover dragonflies to learn more about them and the habitats you are likely to find them in. It will be a waterside walk that you will learn about how we manage the park to benefit dragonflies and damselflies. Be prepared to be curious and ask questions.

Pond Dipping at the Great British Garden 12.45-1.30pm

Close up look at the specialised wildlife that live in the Pond in the Great British Garden. There is a great boardwalk where activities that enable everyone to get closer to the fascinating nature that lives in the area. Learn more about the species and habitat and how we look after the garden to encourage more biodiversity.

Self guided tour
Anytime
Use the Google Map or the Nature Trail Guide to walk around the Park collecting photographs of wildlife and habitat. Post your finds on social media (Instagram, X formally Twitter, etc) using #ParkBioBlitz and we can collect the data from there.
