The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) is inviting those who live, work or study around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to attend the latest Your Neighbourhood Talks event which will focus on zero carbon living and the impacts of climate change on the Park itself. 

The United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26) starts at the end of the month in Glasgow and will run until the middle of November. It will again highlight the need for a global focus on climate change and the steps the world must take to further limit long-term impact to the environment. 

The LLDC supports the Mayor of London’s target of a net zero city by 2030 and recognises that COP26 presents an opportunity for change in the face of a global challenge. The Park represents a local community that can come together to explore what a local level response to the global climate challenge should be.   

The latest Your Neighbourhood Talks event on the evening of Tuesday, October 19 at Timber Lodge, which reopened earlier this month, is a chance for the local community’s voice to be heard in relation to the climate emergency. 

It will be a chance to ask all sorts of questions that relate to so many. Such as what do all the terms mean? What’s true and what’s not? What does it mean for me and my family and friends? What part do I want to play and how? 

The event will include a panel discussion which will give people the chance to ask those questions. There will also be a marketplace of stalls with wider information on Park activities.

The panel, which will be chaired by LLDC Youth Board member Kaitlene Koranteng, will include Ben Coulter, Head of Sustainability at LLDC, Alex Russell, Executive Chair at Hackney Wick and Fish Island Community Development Trust and Isabel McAllister, Responsible Business Director at MACE.

It will also be the first Your Neighbourhood Talks event since the coronavirus pandemic struck in March 2020. It is therefore a great chance to reconnect, share, learn and identify further opportunities that can be supported in the months to come.

Emma Frost, Director of Innovation, Sustainability and Community at LLDC, said: “Over the last couple of years and months the direct and more immediate impacts of climate change have become really apparent. From the wildfires in California to the storm floods in London. 

“We all have a major responsibility to face the climate emergency head on. But that starts with having conversations about what’s happening, the experiences and impacts, potential solutions and trade-offs. 

“Events such as Your Neighbourhood Talks help to bring people together to have these conversations, explore ideas and issues with a view to informing and co-designing potential solutions. 

“This dialogue is crucial to help shape the innovation and collaboration potential of the Park as an urban testbed which can help develop solutions towards better climate resilience, wellbeing and social justice in our city.”
