If you’re aged 12–17, and live in Hackney, Newham, Tower Hamlets or Waltham Forest, and you’re interested in creative, tech and design industries, why not sign up for the free online East Summer School? From one-off classes to full-week courses, there are lots of fantastic sessions packed with unique and interactive experiences. The programme starts on 27 July, and includes coding, dance, fashion, computer game design, engineering and architecture. Courses on offer include: ‘BBC Music living room sessions’ and ‘Computer game design taster session.’

Summer School courses are being delivered by world-leading organisations, such as the BBC, UAL’s London College of Fashion, University College London and Studio Wayne McGregor who will be moving to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park as part of East Bank. Other partners include Idverde, Art Clubbers,  Jess and Morgs, Class Of Your Own, The Yard Theatre, The Landscape Institute , People Speak, British Council, Staffordshire University London, Badu Sports and Catalyst in Communities. The Summer School is supported by the London Legacy Development Corporation,  Foundation for FutureLondon & City of London.

Layla Conway, Senior Communities Manager, London Legacy Development Corporation, said: “We can’t wait to welcome young people to this year’s virtual East Summer School. Holding the courses virtually does present some challenges- for example, we know that not all young people have access to laptops or computers, so we are making sure young people will be able to access the courses on their phones and they will be sent out activity packs where possible.”

Mohaiminul Islam Sium, aged 15, who attended last year said: “What I enjoyed the most about East Summer School is that I got a chance to try new activities that I had never tried before, and meet new friends instead of sitting at home doing nothing.”

This year, there are three categories of courses available:

•  Intensive – a course taking place over a number of days where you work towards a tangible outcome

•  Interactive – a course taking place over a few hours, maybe in one day or spread out over two, where the workshop is interactive and you produce something at the end

•  Informative – a one-off webinar style information sharing workshop, where you will be able to find out key information on a subject or career
