East Wick & Sweetwater launches public consultation on Sweetwater masterplan; consults further on East Wick development phases

Proposals for new homes, as well as commercial, retail and community uses, on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will be on display at a series of public exhibitions in the local area between March and May 2020.

Promoted by East Wick & Sweetwater Projects (a joint venture partnership between Places for People and Balfour Beatty Investments), the two new East London neighbourhoods of East Wick and Sweetwater will together deliver at least 1,500 new homes. With the East Wick masterplan having been approved in 2015, the first phase of work in this neighbourhood is well underway with delivery of first homes in Autumn 2020.

The exhibitions are taking place as part of a public consultation to give local people a chance to view and comment on the emerging plans. The proposals have been developed jointly between the joint venture partnership and the London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC), as landowner.

• In March, proposals for the Sweetwater masterplan will go on display with a Zonal Masterplan application to be submitted in May 2020.
• In May, proposals for subsequent development phases of East Wick and Sweetwater will go on display; with reserved matters planning applications to be submitted in September 2020.

Andrew Atkins, Development Director of East Wick and Sweetwater projects, said:

‘This is the first stage of public consultation on the Sweetwater masterplan. We’re holding it at early stage in development so we can gain valuable feedback from the local community to help us prepare our plans for submission later this year. For East Wick, where work is already well underway on the first phase, now is the time for people to have their say on the detail of what we propose to deliver for the future phases. We’re really keen for members of the community to attend one of our events, view the plans, chat to the project team and tell us what you think.’

‘We want to hear from as many people as possible about their views on the plans for East Wick and Sweetwater. We want to create thriving new neighbourhoods centred on the benefits of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the unique characteristics of the local area. With new homes and commercial space already being delivered at East Wick and the Sweetwater Masterplan about to be unveiled, we’re seeing real progress in building new communities and want these plans to build on that progress.’
