NEW STATE OF THE ART RADIO TRAINING STUDIO IN EAST LONDON

NEW STATE OF THE ART RADIO TRAINING STUDIO IN EAST LONDON

Press Release 19/06/2013

A state-of-the-art radio training studio in east London, funded by London Legacy Development Corporation, has the potential to train more than 120 more young people in radio production over the next two years.

Since 2012, 70 young people, aged 16 – 25, from the boroughs surrounding Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park have already developed skills and gained a qualification in radio production at the 3 Mills Studio,  through a partnership with Reprezent FM 107.1 Community youth radio station and local training provider, A New Direction.

On Thursday, 13 June, the work of the young people who participated in the “Voice of East London” project was showcased at the newly refurbished studio in Bromley-by-Bow, east London.

Tevin, 20, from Hackney, said:

“The project has given me a window of opportunity and has made me more confident in talking and interviewing. I love the new studio space and it allows me to continue my learning in a really cool location.”

Ashley, from Newham, said:

“Through the radio programme I have learned the importance of making the most out of every opportunity. It’s been a fantastic journey for me and it is great to have a brand new radio studio on my doorstep.”

Ayesha from Waltham Forest said: “I feel honoured to be part of the Voice of East London project. I have learned so many new skills, and it has enabled me to develop my CV and open up new job opportunities. This new studio is such a fantastic resource in the area.”

Dennis Hone, chief executive, London Legacy Development Corporation, said:

“It was really inspiring to meet some of the young people who have benefited from this superb radio project, and to hear about some of the exciting work they’ve been doing.

“Giving young people new opportunities has always been a legacy aspiration of the Games and that’s exactly what this project delivers. Community projects like this will continue to build brighter futures for young people over the years to come.”
