MSG Planning Application Q&A
Press Release 18/03/2022
Q. When will the MSG Sphere planning application meeting be held?
A. The planning application for MSG Sphere will be considered at the Planning Decisions Committee meeting on Tuesday 22 March 2022 at 6pm.
The meeting will be held in public and streamed online.
Q. Can I attend the meeting in person?
A. Yes, but there are limited number of spaces available for people to attend in person. Due to the high levels of interest in the application we have moved the meeting to a larger room at London Stadium.
London Stadium (Entrance B), Stratford E20 2ST.
To help us manage attendance at the meeting safely please email planningcommittee@londonlegacy.co.uk before 11am on Monday 21 March if you want to attend in person. We will allocate spaces on a first come, first served basis.
London Stadium staff will carry out their usual security checks including bag searches so access to the meeting room may take slightly longer than usual so please arrive by 5.30pm on 22 March.
Please note that LLDC will continue to put in place the following Covid-19 safety measures for its meetings: extra space between attendees; encouraging attendees to wear a face mask/covering; encouraging the use of lateral flow testing by attendees in advance of the meeting and; increased cleaning measures at the meeting venue.
Q. What if I cannot attend in person?
A. The meeting will be broadcast online. You can access the live stream link here.
Q. Can I speak at the meeting?
A. Speaking at the committee meeting is at the discretion of the Committee Chair and will be in accordance with the Committee’s Standing Orders.
If you would like to register to speak please contact planningcommittee@londonlegacy.co.uk no later than 4pm on Friday 18 March.
As in all committee meetings there is limited time available for people to speak. We encourage people to nominate one speaker where possible whether they wish to speak for or against the proposal.
Q. Who has submitted the planning application and is it on Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park?
A. The Planning Application has been submitted by Madison Square Gardens (MSG) on land it owns in Stratford Town Centre.
The site is located between Westfield Stratford City Shopping Centre and the historic Stratford High Street and Broadway area. It is a vacant triangular plot bounded on all sides by railway lines and disconnected from the surrounding public realm and public routes. There is no public access through the site. The site was previously used as a coach car park during the London 2012 Olympic Games.
The Planning Committee report is available here which contains the detail of the planning application and contains maps of images of the site (see pages 13 and 35).
Q. What is LLDC’s role?
A. LLDC is the planning authority for the area and so is responsible for determining planning applications submitted with its planning area.
The Planning Decisions Committee has been appointed to make sure that decisions on planning applications are made in an open, transparent and impartial manner.
The committee is made up of two members of the Legacy Corporation’s board, four independent members, and five local Councillors recommended by the four boroughs around the Park.
Further information on the planning decisions committee, including details of the current members and links to associated papers, reports and minutes can be found on our Planning Decisions Committee page.
