As work begins to raise the cable net to install the world’s longest cantilevered roof in the Stadium at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, new state-of-the-art time-lapse cameras have been installed for the public to witness the transformation of the iconic venue.

With three cameras positioned in and around the famous venue, people won’t miss a moment of action from inside the Stadium. Each camera shows the venue from a different angle and people will be able to see the latest pictures at any time of the day or night on the Park’s website as the Stadium is transformed into a year round multi-use venue that will deliver a lasting sporting, cultural and community legacy in east London.

From today there will be a chance to see the work taking place to install the venue’s new roof which will be twice the size of the original one at 45,000sq metres and will be the longest cantilevered stadium roof of its kind in the world. When complete the roof will span 84 metres at its deepest point and will cover every seat in the Stadium helping to improve acoustics and spectator experience for football matches, other sporting events and concerts.

And there are plenty more exciting milestones ahead, including the raising of the new light paddles, the laying of the pitch ahead of Rugby World Cup 2015, the installation of new retractable seating, the unveiling of the athletics track and the laying of the new football pitch ahead of West Ham United’s move to the Stadium for the 2016/17 football season, all of which will be captured by the time-lapse cameras.

Work on the Stadium is being undertaken by the E20 Stadium Partnership, set up between the London Legacy Development Corporation and Newham Council, who have shared responsibility for the Stadium’s future as an all-round multi-use venue, delivering a lasting sporting, cultural and commercial legacy.

Dennis Hone, Chief Executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation, said:  “The transformation of the Stadium is a fascinating project and to be able to share that with the public through this time-lapse footage is an exciting prospect. Our contractors are on track to deliver a stunning world-class multi-use venue and we are eagerly looking forward to the first events taking place next year.”

Mayor of Newham Sir Robin Wales said: “The Stadium is an inspirational place. People now have a window through which they can see it being transformed into a world class attraction, resulting in a lasting community legacy of jobs, education and grassroots sport. That has to be good for the residents of Newham, London and the nation as a whole.”

Stuart Fraser, Project Director for Balfour Beatty said: “The installation of the time-lapse cameras gives everyone a chance to follow the transformation work. It is also a fantastic opportunity for West Ham United FC supporters to see their new home as it evolves.”

As part of its multi-use legacy plans the Stadium will host five matches during Rugby World Cup 2015 and will be the permanent home of West Ham United Football Club from 2016. The Stadium will also become the new national competition venue for athletics in the UK hosting regional and national age group championships, as well as elite international events including the annual IAAF Diamond League meeting and the IPC and IAAF World Athletics Championships in 2017.
