The award celebrated the outstanding progress London has made in securing a lasting legacy from the 2012 Games by preparing for the creation of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.

Over the past year, the Legacy Corporation has set a legacy benchmark for Olympic Host Cities by securing the future of the Park and its venues before the 2012 Games had even started.

That work has included creating a 20 year masterplan for the Park, securing outline planning permission for 6,800 homes across five new neighbourhoods and appointing Taylor Wimpey and London & Quadrant to develop the first neighbourhood called Chobham Manor.

The Legacy Corporation was also praised for securing the future of the majority of permanent venues by appointing operators and setting high targets for local employment, apprenticeships and community use.

Dennis Hone, Chief Executive of the London Legacy Development Corporation, who accepted the award, said:

“London has set the blueprint for legacy and I am delighted that Estates Gazette has recognised the great progress we are making.

“After three years of legacy planning, we are now delivering a Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park for everyone that will bring new homes, jobs and opportunities for sport and leisure.

“While the Park will begin to reopen from next summer, the development of this area is a 20 year project and we must continue to meet the high standards that will change people’s lives.”
