As the new planning authority for the Olympic Park and the surrounding area, the Legacy Corporation must produce a Local Plan which will set out in detail how it will help the area to develop up until 2030.

The plan will look at how best to bring jobs and growth, how many new homes are required by the local community and how to deal with the impact of any developments on traffic, waste water and other resources.

It will also lay out how local land can be used, what sort of housing can be built and where, and what types of businesses can operate in certain areas.

Vivienne Ramsey, Director of Planning Polices and Decisions, said:

“We need the input of local people to help us put together the Local Plan. Whether you are a resident, run a local business, represent a community group or are a developer, we want to hear your views.

“For just a few minutes that it takes to complete this questionnaire you will be able to shape development in the area for a generation.”
Once the consultation ends at the end of December 2012, the Legacy Corporation’s planning officers will start work on developing draft policies and proposals and selecting areas of land for different uses such as housing or commercial space.

There will be a further consultation in autumn 2013 before the Local Plan is examined by an independent planning inspector in spring/summer 2014. Their report and recommendations will feed into the final version of the Local Plan before it is formally adopted in autumn 2014.

The Local Plan will then form the basis for the Legacy Corporation’s future planning decisions, for example when deciding applications for planning permission.
