Join us for a giant picnic in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park!

Story 01/06/2015

Get together with your neighbours, friends and family, and join us on Sunday 7 June for a huge picnic in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park to celebrate ‘the Big Lunch’. On this day, people all over the country will be gathering for a huge community lunch, and where better to bring a group of your nearest and dearest than London’s new Park?

The aim of the event is to get as many people as possible across the whole of the UK to have lunch with their neighbours annually on the first Sunday in June in a simple act of community, friendship and fun. The day will be packed full of fun, free activities for the whole family to enjoy, including a huge treasure hunt, face painting, storytelling and cookery demonstrations. Local theatre groups will be on hand to keep children entertained, and Sadler’s Wells will be offering an exclusive sneak preview of their latest smash hit show, Traces, performed by incredible performers The 7 Fingers.

Work off your picnic lunch by taking part in free sports sessions, including a huge tug of war, obstacle course and parachute games. As befitting the setting of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, there will also be mini Olympic athletic events, including long jump, an obstacle course and balance games, as well as that British classic, the egg and spoon race!

Budding Bakers are invited to show off their skills by entering the Big Lunch Bake off, with prizes being awarded to the best culinary creations.

The Big Lunch is more fun with friends and family! If you’re a street, estate or community group, come along to the Big Lunch together- the largest group of people on the day will be treated to a trip up to the top of the ArcelorMittal Orbit, the UK’s tallest sculpture, to enjoy the breath-taking views of London. All you need to do is bring a packed lunch down to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park between 12noon - 4pm and join in the fun!
