ICONIC LONDON 2012 RUNNING TRACK GOES ON SALE
Story 25/07/2016
The team behind the former Olympic Stadium create an opportunity for the public to own a piece of the historic 2012 track.
A new track has been laid in time for this summer’s major athletics events including the Müller Anniversary Games and the former track, which was used for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, is now being made available for members of the public to own. This unique sporting memorabilia was mainly taken from the 100m straight when the track was removed as part of the stadium transformation works.
Proceeds from the sale of the track will go back into maintaining and operating the London Marathon Community Track and the London Stadium. Sections of the track are also being gifted to local schools, London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Gold medallists and other partners, recognising their contribution to the Stadium’s past and its exciting future.
British Athletics Chief Executive Niels de Vos said “The track at the former Olympic Stadium is iconic. Athletes such as Mo Farah, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Hannah Cockroft and David Weir all produced incredible performances on this track at the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and this is your chance to have your own piece of history.”
The majority of the track will be available for people to buy at £60 for a framed piece of track (120mm x 75mm set mounted into a 203mm x 152mm piece of acrylic.) This will be a fantastic gift or a personal reminder of London 2012. There is also the opportunity to purchase ‘Track in a Box’ - a beautifully presented gift or memento from London 2012 with a 260mm x 160mm piece of track sitting in its own commemorative box. The track sits inside a piece of laser cut foam which surrounds a zinc etched plaque adding authentication to the purchase. This will be available for £99.
A personalised box, plus a limited edition large section of stadium track (mounted into a 600mm x 400mm laser cut acrylic frame), are also available for £120 and £399 respectively. Finally, a very limited number of premium sections are available, including numbers from both the start and finishing lines, for those collectors or sports fans who want a unique and extra special piece of history from 2012.
Only a limited amount of track is available, with products starting from £60 and it goes on sale from Monday 25 July at https://www.london2012track.com/
