The Great Get Together returns to Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 1 July
Press Release 07/06/2023
The Great Get Together, a fabulous, free community celebration, will take place on Saturday 1 July in the south of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. The event is inspired by and showcases the best of east London, bringing together music, dance, arts, sports and food for everyone to enjoy.
The Great Get Together
East Bank partners the V&A, Sadler's Wells, BBC, UCL and UAL’s London College of Fashion will host a range of fun and engaging activities for all the family at the ever-popular East Bank Zone, before the arts and culture venues that form East Bank begin to open later this year.
As always, live music will form a big part of the day. In collaboration with the BBC, the Great Get Together will feature captivating musical headline acts from BBC Introducing. This will see emerging artists from east London and beyond performing on the main stage. Acts include Lizzie Berchie, who creates an infectious soulful sound influenced by R&B, neo-soul, jazz and reggae and Sans Soucis, who blends classic songwriting with elements of hope and melancholy to create powerful art.
Also performing on the Main Stage are a number of top choral groups. Watch out for NewYVC, a vocal collective of 11-25 year olds singing everything from gospel to Mozart. Plus catch the Stratford East Singers, known for their appearances on the X-Factor. The iconic BBC Singers, founded 99 years ago, will also take the mics for a wide repertoire of choral music.
There will also be a wide array of workshops and performances on offer, from African drumming from Iroko Theatre and Mbilla Arts, to dance sessions with Speaker Box, or the ever-glorious Queer Salsa. Join a workshop with Unity in the Community and help produce a collaborative hand painted mural or make some jewellery with Art Matters.
The Great Get Together is supported by Foundation for Future London’s Westfield East Bank Creative Futures Fund, funded by Westfield Stratford City, and Foundations Programme, co-funded by City of London.
