Copper Box Arena sees royal visit for SportsAid

Story 22/10/2013

Youth sports charity SportsAid filled the Copper Box Arena last week with an inspiring array of athletes for the Duchess of Cambridge’s first official engagement as the charity’s patron.

The event saw more than 70 SportsAid athletes past and present, including several Olympians and Paralympians, demonstrate their skill at CP football, badminton, wheelchair basketball, fencing and volleyball.  The Duchess even got involved herself – playing several rallies of volleyball with a group of athletes including England men’s volleyball squad member Jordan Dalrymple.

The athletes also took the opportunity to learn about social media and media interview techniques from Fiona Cotterill and James Pearce with swimmer Karen Pickering and wheelchair basketball player Ade Adepitan, get top nutrition tips from Jenny Tschiesche with rower Steve Williams, and enjoy the rare chance to ask diver Leon Taylor, rower Katherine Grainger, swimmer Steve Parry and middle-distance runner Danny Crates what it takes to compete at the top of your sport.
