The London Legacy Development Corporation (LLDC) has launched a public consultation to help maintain the safety of women and girls who visit Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and the wider Mayoral Development Corporation area.

The tragic murder of Sarah Everard has led to organisations, such as LLDC reviewing the approach to women’s safety and give this specific focus. Another tragic murder recently – of teacher Sabina Nessa in south London – has again brought national attention to this critical issue.

As part of the consultation, LLDC will be seeking the views of people in the local area to get an understanding of how safe they feel when they visit the Park.

The Park was the first in the United Kingdom to achieve Secured by Design (SbD) accreditation, and received a rating of 8/10 by 91 per cent of visitors who rated their personal safety.

Lyn Garner, LLDC chief executive, said: “Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park has been a sanctuary for lots of Londoners over the past 18 months, a place where they can feel safe and enjoy the wonderful surroundings. We are launching this consultation to further identify how we can continue to maintain high standards of safety, particularly the safety of women and girls, for years to come.”

Crime levels remain very low on the Park but it is vitally important that where possible steps are taken to ensure people feel safe while visiting.

The consultation will also help to give LLDC the knowledge to help make any improvements required while recording key information which will aid in future developments on the Park.

The consultation provides a heatmap of the wider Mayoral Development Corporation and allows respondents to pinpoint any specific areas where they do or do not feel safe.
