New panel members wanted to advise on Olympicopolis Cultural and University District Developments
Press Release 02/12/2015
The Quality Review Panel has 22 members and tests the fundamental design principles of planning proposals both at pre-application stage and as part of the application process itself. The panel supports the work of the Legacy Corporation’s Planning Policy and Decisions Team, which has considered new developments for the Park and the surrounding area since 1 October 2012.
Olympicopolis will bring together some of the world’s leading organisations to showcase art, dance, history, education, craft, science, technology and cutting edge design. Two areas of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will be transformed into a cultural and university district, leading the way for regeneration and growth in east London by creating 3,000 jobs, attracting 1.5 million visitors a year and delivering a £2.8bn boost to the economy.
Inspired by South Kensington’s Exhibition Road and the Southbank Centre, which were born out of the 1851 Great Exhibition and the 1951 Festival of Britain, Olympicopolis is bringing world class institutions to the Park, including Sadler’s Wells, UAL’s London College of Fashion, UCL (University College London) and the Victoria and Albert Museum.
The London Legacy Development Corporation is working in partnership to produce masterplans for the two Olympicopolis sites, with LDA Design leading plans for UCL East and Allies and Morrison designing Stratford Waterfront.
Masterplans for both sites will be developed during 2015 and 2016, with planning applications to be submitted later in the next year.
New panel members are being sought to strengthen the panel’s range of expertise, with a particular focus on supporting the Legacy Corporation’s work on Olympicopolis. Applications are welcome from experts in the following areas:
- design of public buildings
- higher education / school design
- large scale residential development
- masterplanning / landscape design
- design in historic contexts
Rosanna Lawes, Executive Director of Development at the Legacy Corporation, said:
“The Quality Review Panel plays a vital role in ensuring the LLDC and developers maintain the highest standards of design. With the development of Olympicopolis over the coming years this is an exciting time to join the Panel and shape such an exciting London and globally significant project.”
Applications should be addressed to Fortismere Associates, who manage the panel to maintain the independence of its advice. Those who wish to apply should send a CV including two referees, and a covering letter outlining the contribution they could make to the panel to LLDC@fortismere-associates.co.uk. The deadline for applications is 5pm on Monday 21 December.
Applicants should be able to commit to attending approximately six to eight meetings a year. Appointment will initially be for the calendar year starting in January 2016. Remuneration will be set at £400 / day.
