Working in partnership with the Barbican and east London arts venture Create London, the Park will be hosting East a weekend of music, food, art and theatre inspired by east London on 27 and 28 July 2013.

The weekend long celebration will include live international music, the Real Food Festival, and a Mini-Travelling Art Circus featuring theatre, magic, music and games, presented by The House of Fairy Tales. East London artists will be signing their work at the Art Car Boot Fair. Caught By The River share their passion for literature, angling, music and beer with the Park as they host celebrated authors and musicians performing for audiences; Eco Design Fair curate an arts & fashion market showcasing the best up-cycled, vintage & contemporary design London has to offer and the Discover Children’s Story Centre bring interactive family storytelling alongside hands-on arts & crafts workshops. Plus – performances and workshops from Theatre Royal Stratford East, Boy Blue Entertainment, Ida Barr; promenade musical performances; pop up theatre; family trails; picnics along the riverbanks – and more to be announced.

East builds on the long-standing commitment of the Barbican and Create London of bringing great arts experiences to the heart of east London communities, and aims to commemorate the creative legacy of London 2012, celebrate its landscape, and to bring it to life for everyone to enjoy. This is one of a series of major events happening at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park this summer. Following this event the North Park Cafe and community rooms, the Copper Box and the North Park will open to the public.

The London Legacy Development Corporation has already announced the London Anniversary Games 26-28 July 2013, with many Olympic champions returning to the Stadium for IAAF Diamond League action on Friday evening and Saturday afternoon and Sunday dedicated to showcasing the paralympic champions of 2012.

A series of summer concerts includes Wireless on 12-13 July and the recently announced Hard Rock Calling on 29-30 June.

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will begin to open to the public from July, it will open in phases – starting with the north park – and will be fully open by spring 2014. It will be a new piece of the city with new homes and schools, state of the art venues, beautiful public parklands and a year round programme of events.

The transformation of the Olympic site into Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park started immediately after the Games and will take 18 months. The £292million transformation project is called ‘Clear, Connect, Complete.’ It will clear Games overlay including the removal of temporary venues, walkways and stands, connect the Park to the surrounding areas with new roads and pathways and complete the Park’s venues to their legacy designs for everyone to enjoy.
