The London Legacy Development Corporation has already announced a series of summer events for the Park including the British Athletics Grand Prix as well as concerts and festivals organised by Live Nation and RideLondon, a mass charity cycle event.

Now, the Legacy Corporation is offering a variety of stunning spaces in the south of the Park, bringing everything from theatre to seasonal fairs and attractions into this new part of east London.

The new opportunities are located to the south of the Aquatics Centre, ArcelorMittal Orbit and Stadium, they are:

South Park Lawn

A 15,000m² outdoor lawn available from spring 2014 for five years with a possible two year extension. This open green space and fabulous purpose designed lawn is a spectacular setting for concerts, outdoor shows, festivals and cultural events.

Pavilion

In addition, on the southern edge of the Lawn there will be an events pavilion with a 5,000m² footprint and up to two storeys. The pavilion will offer a year round indoor event facility and will be in an ideal spot to provide hospitality for the full programme of events planned for the Park which includes the 2017 World Athletics Championship. This opportunity will also be available for five years from spring 2014 with a possible 2 year extension.

Outline planning permission for South Park Pavilion has been submitted.

The Legacy Corporation is looking for a high quality design for the South Park Pavilion, something that will complement the surrounding Park and prove worthy of the high class events it shall be hosting.

Stratford Waterfront

A vibrant waterfront space covering around 20,000m² and available for five years from spring 2014 for a range of seasonal fairs and attractions. In the winter months (November to January) these seasonal fairs will be expected to expand out into Plaza and South Park Lawn to provide a really unique offer for this really unique space. Stratford Waterfront will be developed on part of the site previously occupied by the Waterpolo Arena.

South Park Plaza

The Plaza is the centrepiece of the South Park, bringing together the Waterfront, Lawn and venues and linking them with the rest of the Park. The Plaza is made up of a series of “outdoor rooms”; each one is themed and provides a variety of opportunities for casual use as well as organised activities. The “rooms” cover around 10,000m². The Legacy Corporation is looking for an operator to bring this space to life with something for local residents and international tourists alike. The South Park Plaza was designed by James Corner Field Operations, with planting by internationally renowned designer Piet Oudolf.

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park will begin to open to the public from 27 July, exactly one year after the London 2012 Opening Ceremony. It will open in phases – starting with the north park – and will be fully open by spring 2014. It will be a new piece of the city with new homes and schools, state of the art venues, beautiful public parklands and a year round programme of events.

The transformation of the Olympic site into Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park started immediately after the Games and will take 18 months. The £292million transformation project is called ‘Clear, Connect, Complete.’ It will clear Games overlay including the removal of temporary venues, walkways and stands, connect the Park to the surrounding areas with new roads and pathways and complete the Park’s venues to their legacy designs for everyone to enjoy.
