LAURA KENNY RACES FOR FIRST TIME SINCE HER RIO OLYMPICS TRIUMPH

Story 21/11/2016

Kenny returns to the Lee Valley Velopark to race for her professional team, Matrix Fitness RT at the Grand Final of the Revolution Cycling Champions League.

Kenny holds such fond memories of the velodrome, as the venue where she won two of her gold medals at the London 2012 Olympic Games.

It has been three months since Kenny raced, taking some well-earned time-off to enjoy her Rio success with her new husband, 6-time Olympic gold medallist Jason Kenny, whom she married in September.

The 24-year-old said, “I’m really excited to be back racing again. I’d taken some time off after Rio as the year leading up to the Olympics was very full on with training and I needed a break after it but I’m looking forward to getting back on my bike and enjoying racing after the pressure of Rio. I know the others won’t make it an easy race back for me, but it’ll be great fun and even better it will be in front of a home crowd,” said Kenny.

Fellow Olympic gold medallist and Matrix Fitness RT teammate, Elinor Barker will join Kenny in London for Matrix Fitness. Barker will also race at Round 1 in Manchester.

Dame Sarah Storey announced last week that she will return to racing for the first time since the Rio 2016 Paralympics, riding as team leader for championship leaders Podium Ambition p/b Club La Santa at Round 1 in Manchester.
