Usain Bolt to light up Friday night at the Stadium for Sainsburys Anniversary Games

Story 10/07/2015

Usain Bolt, winner of six Olympic and eight world titles, will headline the start of a unmissable weekend of world-class athletics when he competes at the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games, in the Park's iconic Stadium on Friday 24 July.

It will be the first time that sprint superstar Bolt has competed individually in Britain since the Sainsbury’s Anniversary Games in 2013, where he won the 100m in 9.85 seconds.

Bolt remains the greatest attraction for spectators in world athletics and is widely considered to be one of the greatest sportsmen of all time.

Bolt will be part of an incredible evening of athletics that will see more than a dozen Olympic and world champions take to the track, including double Olympic and world champion Mo Farah, 400m world champion Christine Ohuruogu, pole vault world record holder Renaud Lavillenie, London 2012 110m hurdles champion Aries Merritt and high jump stars Mutaz Essa Barshim and Bohdan Bondarenko.

Speaking ahead of the event on Friday 24 July, Bolt said:

“I have great memories of competing in the Olympic Stadium in the summer of 2012 and in the previous Grand Prix meets in London.

“The British fans are always great and I expect there will also be a lot of Jamaican fans in the stadium. It will be amazing to put on another great show for them under the floodlights on the Friday night.”

The Sainsbury's Anniversary Games forms part of an incredible weekend of live sport on the Park, which includes a two-day Diamond League meeting on Friday 24 and Saturday 25 July, with the Sainsbury's IPC Athletics Grand Prix Final taking place on Sunday 26 July alongside National Paralympic Day featuring the Mayor of London's Liberty Festival.
