SCHOOL SPORTS DAY CELEBRATES 100 DAYS TO GO TO RIO

Story 28/04/2016

More than 600 pupils from schools in the host boroughs flocked to the Park yesterday to take part in a special sports day marking 100 days to go to the start of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Offering a range of activities, from high-energy Zumba to mastering fancy footwork for fencing, the sports day gave the children the chance to try their hand at a number of different activities that will run on the Park throughout the summer as part of the build up to Rio.

Pupils from fifteen primary schools had a go at shooting hoops, boxing sparring, playing football, Taekwondo high kicks and perfecting their serves and spikes at volleyball on the South Lawn, in the shadow of the ArcelorMittal Orbit and the Stadium.

Hosted in partnership with activeNewham and other local providers, the sports day aimed to celebrate the Games and show support for Team GB while giving the children a taste of all the different activities on offer in east London to help stay fit and healthy.
