LLDC FUNDS SUSTAINABLE FASHION ACCELERATOR BASED IN HACKNEY WICK

Story 27/11/2019

LLDC, working with The Trampery - a social enterprise that specialises in shared workspace and support for entrepreneurs and creative businesses - has announced the second cohort of companies and individuals to be accepted into the Sustainable Fashion Accelerator (SFA) based in Fish Island Village, Hackney Wick, and across east London.

The SFA is a bespoke business programme, designed to address the underlying issues facing growth-stage fashion companies in London, with a focus on integrating sustainability into their business models. Funded and supported by LLDC, each six-month-long support programme will run four times over the next three years, helping over thirty business.

Fish Island Village, supported in part by Mayor of London’s Good Growth Fund, will be London's largest campus of fashion studios. It is a key project within Hackney Wick's Creative Enterprise Zone, and an important part of the Fashion District Initiative, a hub of ambitious businesses, academic institutions and investors in east London. Alongside this, and in line with the Mayor’s Good Work Standard, the programme will support the development of a Good Work Standard for fashion. This will look to address key sectoral challenges to delivering good working standards and practices and develop a set of industry specific guidelines and regulations to support businesses.
Our chief executive, Lyn Garner commented: “We’re delighted that the partnership with The Trampery is helping to support small fashion businesses at a critical stage in their development. Supporting Good Growth is vital to ensure that the businesses can realise their potential and benefit local people, the environment and the economy.”
