Inclusive Cycling Programme Proves Huge Hit at the Park
Story 14/09/2015
A new inclusive cycling programme at the Park's Lee Valley VeloPark has seen participants enjoy more than 600 bike rides.
Delivered by the All Ability Cycling Hub at Chobham Manor, itself run by local social enterprise Bikeworks, the programme caters for all levels of ability and disability and has proved hugely popular, with individual session attracting up to 60 participants.
The inclusive cycling programme is a vibrant legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games and is an excellent illustration of the public's appetite for accessible sport.
The All Ability Cycling Hub aims to make the thrill of cycling fully accessible by providing more than 40 bicycles, including a bike car, wheel chair platform bikes and a number of other specially adapted bikes.
The Hub is a joint initiative between the London Legacy Development Corporation, Lee Valley Regional Park Authority, London and Quadrant Housing Association, Taylor Wimpey and Sport England. It forms part of the Motivate East project which is delivering London’s commitment to provide a lasting legacy of sports participation for disabled people following the London 2012 Games and has already provided 39,000 sport and physical activity opportunities.
