LLDC PLANNING TEAM APPROVES PLANS TO INCREASE AFFORDABLE HOUSING AT BROMLEY BY BOW

LLDC PLANNING TEAM APPROVES PLANS TO INCREASE AFFORDABLE HOUSING AT BROMLEY BY BOW

Press Release 18/03/2020

LLDC’s Planning Decisions Committee met last night (17 March) and among the approved items were two planning applications to increase the level of affordable housing at Bromley by Bow and a new primary school on Sugar House Island.

Two planning applications were approved from Guinness Housing Trust which will increase the amount of affordable housing from the currently permitted 27% to 49% of the 965 homes (447 affordable and 518 market sale) at Bromley by Bow. The tenure mix within the affordable homes equates to 32% London affordable rent and 68% shared ownership, an improvement on the 18% London Affordable Rent and 72% intermediate previously approved.

The increase in affordable homes is a result of additional funding from Guinness and from the LLDC using s.106 funds to increase the amount of London Affordable Rented homes in the project from 41 to 144, with a significant uplift in family (3 bed) units in the LAR tenure (to 37 from the 5 previously permitted).

In addition, permission was granted for a new primary school for 420 pupils on Sugar House Island for a three storey building  comprising 2,703sqm, with rooftop playground and MUGA and ground floor playground.

Lyn Garner, LLDC Chief Executive said: “These are important schemes for the area and our communities.

“I am delighted that we have been able to work with Guinness Housing Trust to increase the level of affordable housing at Bromley-by-Bow and that the Planning Committee has now approved five new schools in the area, so vital to help new communities to grow and thrive.”
