New panel members wanted to help shape the future of Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park | Winter 2018
Press Release 10/12/2018
The London Legacy Development Corporation is inviting applications for membership of the Quality Review Panel. Since 2012 the panel has supported the Legacy Corporation’s Planning Policy and Decisions Team in securing the highest possible design standards within Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and its surrounding neighbourhoods.
New panel members are being sought to strengthen the range of expertise that the panel provides. Applications are welcome from experts in the following areas:
• architecture
• landscape design and public space
• sustainable design
The panel – which has around 30 members – tests the fundamental design principles of planning proposals both at pre-application stage and as part of the application process itself.
It has provided advice on schemes in and around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, including Here East, Chobham Manor, East Village, International Quarter London, and planned new neighbourhoods in Bromley by Bow, Fish Island and Hackney Wick.
Two areas of the park are now being transformed into a new cultural and education district – bringing together world class institutions, including Sadler’s Wells, UAL’s London College of Fashion, UCL (University College London), and the V&A, as well as new studios for the BBC.
Peter Studdert, chair of the Quality Review Panel, said:
‘The Quality Review Panel continues to play an important role in helping the Legacy Corporation achieve high quality design for new development. We are looking for people whose practical experience will add to the panel’s expertise and make a real contribution to the exciting – and sometimes challenging – projects that are now coming forward.’
The Legacy Corporation is committed to building a panel of experts that strongly reflects the diversity of communities within its area, which takes in the London Boroughs of Newham, Tower Hamlets, Hackney and Waltham Forest. Applications are particularly invited from women and candidates from Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic (BAME) backgrounds who are currently under-represented on the panel.
Applications should be addressed to Frame Projects, which manages the Quality Review Panel to maintain the independence of its advice. Those who wish to apply should send a CV, including two referees, and a covering letter outlining the contribution that they could make to the panel, to LLDC@frame-projects.co.uk. The closing date for applications is 17.00 on Monday 20 August 2018.
Applicants should be able to commit to attending approximately six to eight meetings a year. Appointment will initially be for the calendar year starting in October 2018. Remuneration will be set at £450 / day.
