Stratford Waterfront Schools Design Challenge

Stratford Waterfront Schools Design Challenge

Story 29/06/2018

Local schools in East London were challenged to design a new piece of street furniture for Stratford Waterfront.

The furniture had to be playful and interactive but also practical and multifunctional. Students thought about all different types of street furniture for inspiration. Teams submitted a poster explaining how their design works and meets the criteria, the process and evolution, and their final design. Also, teams had to build a 3D model of their design. There were over 30 entries and five from primary and secondary schools were shortlisted.

Primary

  • Maryland Primary School, 2 groups, Newham
  • Gallions primary school, Newham
  • Gainsborough Primary School – Hackney
  • Dersingham Primary School – Newham

Secondary

  • Stormont House, Hackney
  • Chobham Academy, Newham
  • Forest Gate Academy, Newham
  • Buxton Academy, Waltham Forest
  • Bobby Moore Academy, Newham

The shortlisted schools were invited to The Podium, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park on 19th June for the judging afternoon. While the entries were being judged, the lucky students got to ride the slide on the ArcellorMittal Orbit and take part in workshops with the partner institutions.
