The Quality Review Panel welcomes new appointees
Press Release 19/11/2021
The Quality Review Panel, which now has 30 members, supports the work of the Legacy Corporation’s Planning Policy and Decisions Team by testing the fundamental design principles of planning proposals both at an early pre-application stage and also as part of the planning application process.
The new panel members are:
Jennette Emery-Wallis
Director of Landscape Architecture, LUC
Landscape architect Jennette Emery-Wallis has over 20 years’ experience working on award winning projects across many sectors including public realm, residential and mixed use development.
Jennette oversees LUC’s design and landscape work for The Royal Parks – a relationship that spans over 40 years – and has led many Heritage Lottery Fund funded public park projects, including Russell Square in London.
With a particular concern for health and wellbeing – including of children – Jennette has led the design of active, playful spaces. These include the award winning Diana, Princess of Wales memorial playground in Kensington Gardens and Tumbling Bay in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park.
Jennette has extensive experience as an external examiner for landscape architecture courses and also as a conference speaker. In 2017 she was appointed an Ambassador for Landscape by the Landscape Institute in recognition of her promotion of landscape architecture – including its importance for active, healthy lifestyles.
Jennette is also a member of the Harlow and Gilston Quality Review Panel, which is supporting high quality design for a new garden town.
Barbara Kaucky
Director, Erect Architecture
Barbara Kaucky is a founding director of Erect Architecture, a London based architecture and public realm practice with a strong focus on social value, health and well being. The practice works predominantly with the public and voluntary sectors and also community groups.
Barbara led one of the first projects in Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park: the award winning Timber Lodge and Tumbling Bay. Erect Architecture has also worked on innovative projects such as the Lambeth Early Action Partnership – which aims to improve outcomes for young children – and Camden Active Spaces.
Current projects include redesigning the approach, entrances and external spaces of Gainsborough Primary School in Hackney Wick; a new playground in Holland Park; and a learning centre in Camley Street Natural Park in King’s Cross.
Barbara is also a member of the London Borough of Camden Design Review Panel and the London Borough of Croydon Place Review Panel. She chairs the RIBA Small Practice Group and is a visiting critic at the Universities of Bath and Cardiff.
Before moving to London Barbara lived, worked and studied in Berlin, Vienna and Los Angeles.
Nisha Kurian
Project architect, We Made That
Nisha Kurian has extensive experience as an architect across a range of sectors and scales. She has particular expertise in the design and delivery of residential and public buildings, as well as masterplanning projects.
Before joining We Made That in 2017, Nisha worked at Adam Khan Architects and Maccreanor Lavington, where she was project architect for a mews development in Barking; housing for postgraduate students in Northwest Cambridge; and a residential led mixed use development in Southwark.
She is currently leading several community focused projects – including the refurbishment and extension to East Street Library, part of What Walworth Wants, a public realm and placemaking strategy for the London Borough of Southwark, and also improved event, play and nature spaces in Cheney Row Park in Waltham Forest.
Recent projects also include a masterplan for the Old Oak and Park Royal Development Corporation for a successful neighbourhood centre that will support employment at Park Royal in west London.
Nisha is a recent resident of Hackney and Tower Hamlets.

Founder, Sarah Wigglesworth Architects
Sarah Wigglesworth has over 30 years’ experience as both practitioner and educator. Since establishing her practice in London in 1994, she has acquired extensive expertise in green and sustainable design and masterplanning.
The practice’s pioneering approach to low energy design – using low cost, sustainable and recycled products – has been applied to a wide range of sectors, including education, housing, masterplanning and community projects. The practice aims to find green solutions that are carefully tailored to the ecological commitment of the building’s users.
Award-winning projects include the Sandal Magna Community Primary School in Wakefield and Takeley Primary School in Essex.

Peter Studdert, chair of the Quality Review Panel, said:
"Development continues to forge ahead in and around Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park. Ambitious and inspiring plans are now taking shape for Hackney Wick and Fish Island, Pudding Mill and Bromley by Bow, as well as a new cultural and education district that will bring world class institutions to the park.
With new members now on board, the Quality Review Panel will continue to help the Legacy Corporation create well designed places that both benefit and delight all those who use them."
