Celebrate World Parks Day at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park

Story 18/09/2015

To mark World Park’s Day (September 19) Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is celebrating having over five million visitors since July 2012 visiting the parklands and playgrounds.

Whether you're looking for a family activity, a place for the kids to let off steam or just a place to enjoy the outdoors, London's new Park has got it covered! Check out the parklands and gardens for how you can explore the individual gardens from the 2012 Garden, Great British Gardens and Pleasure gardens.

There's something for everyone at London's newest park, from idyllic riverside lawns and wetlands teeming with wildlife to giant climbing walls and intricate fountains.

Beautiful, vibrant and surprising, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park is a joy for nature lovers, whether you’re an expert horticulturalist or just looking for somewhere to relax with a picnic. The Park’s 111 acres of open space include gardens full of flowering plants, broad meadows and intricate wetlands.

Gardens and meadows that thrilled visitors to the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, like the exotic terraces of the 2012 Gardens, sit alongside newly planted areas such as the Canal Park, each designed by world-class landscape architects and planting experts.

Each area of the Park has a different character – from the wide, restful green spaces that border the River Lea in the north of the Park, to the modern pleasure gardens of the south of the Park.

The Park in numbers

  • We have had more than five million visits to the Park since July 2013.

  • There are four free themed walking trails to explore – London 2012, Biodiversity, Art in the Park and Kids’ activity.
  • There are 525 bird boxes and 150 bat boxes at the Park.
  • There are 26 permanent artworks in the Park and 2.5km of temporary artworks on hoardings.
