Mayor plants final tree in Mandeville Place orchard to mark London Tree Week
Story 26/05/2015
The Mayor of London, Boris Johnson, today planted the final tree in Mandeville Place, the Park’s brand new orchard made up of 55 new fruit trees including one for each of the gold medal winners at the London 2012 Paralympic games.
Joining the Mayor at the planting was Paralympian Jessica-Jane Applegate, who won gold in the S14 200m freestyle swim event at the London 2012 Games.
Applegate said: “I’m so excited to be back at Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and help open Mandeville Place. It will be a lovely spot to sit and relax during the summer, and to remind us of the incredible Paralympic Games."
Mandeville Place will officially open to the public tomorrow with a day of family activities and entertainment, and a Wassail, a traditional orchard opening ceremony. The space will be a celebration of the London 2012 Paralympic Games, widely regarded to be the most successful and inclusive Paralympic Games of all time.
