London Aquatics Centre to host 5,995 mile 'Road to Rio Triathlon' for Sport Relief

London Aquatics Centre to host 5,995 mile 'Road to Rio Triathlon' for Sport Relief

Story 01/03/2016

Better, the UK’s largest network of public gyms and leisure centres, is encouraging its staff and members at the Park's London Aquatics Centre to swim, cycle and run the distance from London to Rio to raise cash for Sport Relief.

The ‘Road to Rio Triathlon’ starts on Saturday 5 March and finishes on Tuesday 8 March, which marks 150 days to go until the Rio 2016 Olympics. London Aquatics Centre is inviting members, staff and local residents to complete as many miles as they can across any (or all!) of the three triathlon disciplines at the venue in a bid to cover the 5,995 mile distance from London to Rio over the four days.

To get people inspired to take part, British swimmer and Commonwealth Games medal winner, Aimee Willmott, who trains at the London Aquatics Centre, will be getting the challenge off to a speedy start by contributing her morning’s training towards the total 5,995 mile goal.

Better is the official health and fitness partner of Sport Relief 2016 and is inviting everyone across the UK to head down to their local Better leisure centre and join in the fun, with all funds raised going towards the £500,000 #TeamBetter pledge total.

The ‘Road to Rio Triathlon’ is open to members and non-members at the London Aquatics Centre and 100% of the donation will go to Sport Relief - helping change lives in the UK and abroad for the better. The suggested donation to take part is £2 per person.
