ArcelorMittal Orbit announces new mascots

Story 22/05/2014

This May half term (Saturday 24 May 2014 – Sunday 1 June 2014), the ArcelorMittal Orbit, London’s newest family visitor attraction, will unveil its latest members of staff, a team of real-life hawks.

To celebrate, all visitors over half term will be invited to name the three hawks before they become the attraction’s official mascots.

The hawks are important members of the ArcelorMittal Orbit team - it is their job to patrol the 114.5 metre high sculpture and ensure pigeons and other birds don’t set up home within the iconic red steel attraction. Visitors to the attraction can enjoy panoramic views across London and during half term there’s even the chance to witness the majestic grace of one female and two male hawks as the birds glide past the windows of the observation decks and swoop in among the 2,000 tonnes of steel of the UK’s tallest sculpture.

To celebrate the unveiling of the mascots, visitors will be invited to enter a competition to name the hawks and win the chance to adopt the birds for a year. The three winning entries will be announced on Monday 2 June when the chosen names will be given to the hawks.
