Canal Park

The Canal Park will turn the towpath along the Lee Navigation canal on the west of the Park into a beautiful new natural space.

With close links to the Stadium and the upcoming Sweetwater neighbourhood, as well as the existing communities in Fish Island, the Canal Park will act as an active waterfront for local residents and visitors to enjoy.

The Canal Park will vary in width from five to 20 metres along its path, with a varied set of landscapes and plants including woodlands, meadows, coppices, reed beds and green walls. It will be fully accessible and incorporate places for play to be used by the adjacent neighbourhoods. It provides a spot from which visitors can see the varied heritage of the area, from the Victorian warehouses of Hackney Wick and Fish Island to West, to the new housing and modern structures of East Wick, Sweetwater and Here East.

The Canal Park is currently under construction and will start to open from the end of 2014.
